Resolutions for Cities

City, Town, Village and County governments can pass a Resolution to express support for statewide billboard control legislation.

How To Get Your Resolution Passed

You will need to get it on the agenda of the Common Council of your city, and of neighboring cities where you can.

You can start by asking your alderman in your neighborhood to introduce the Resolution at the next city council meeting. You can expect your alderman to be well-informed on signage regulation and he/she is likely to be supportive of the Resolution. Your alderman will help you promote the Resolution since he/she is your public servant.

They may ask you for background information. You can point out the fact that this is not an untried new idea since 5 states already have state-wide billboard controls. Answers to other questions can generally be found elsewhere in this Citizens for a Scenic Wisconsin web site.

If you know someone more powerful than an alderman, talk to them also.

This type of resolution which supports legislation of interest to the city is not unusual in most cities.

If you don't hear back from your alderman or other contact after a reasonable period of time, give him a call to find out the status of the Resolution.
